Meet Beauty Boss Babe, Chantal
Chantal Azamian, founder and CEO of MOTD COSMETICS. MOTD is known for their luxurious PETA Certified Cruelty Free Vegan Makeup Brushes. In May, MOTD expanded their assortment with Faux Mink Lashes. I had the pleasure of meeting Chantal after I featured MOTD in one of my very first blog posts on Natural Beauty Brands from Las Vegas in April of 2018. After I wrote the post, she thanked me for including her brand. Instead of leaving the conversation at that, I decided to send her a DM on Instagram. From there, we ended up meeting for coffee and the rest is history. It has been a blast getting to know Chantal and representing the MOTD brand for the last year.
Vegan Makeup Brushes
The range of MAKEUP BRUSHES are PETA certified cruelty-free vegan. MOTD brushes are made from TAKLON: a high-grade synthetic fiber that mimics animal hair. These brushes are so soft, and they last longer than most animal fur bristles. They feel amazing on your skin. Hypoallergenic and anti-bacterial since they are non-porous, unlike animal fur. Suitable for all skin types, including those with skin sensitivities. One thing I love about the brush selection is that each one is stamped with a clever descriptor to help consumers understand which brush does what. Many of the makeup brushes on the market are labeled in ways that the everyday consumer doesn’t understand. MOTD is creating user friendly products to educate consumers as they apply their makeup.
Faux Mink Lashes
NEW: FAUX MINK LASHES launched in May. There are three collections, each inspired by a LIFESTYLE. Whether you choose to LIVE NATURAL, LIVE FULL, or LIVE EXTRA there is a lash style for everybody. Each pair comes in a gorgeously designed blush paper box and are reusable. Instead of spending $100+ on eyelash extensions, purchase a few pairs of these beauties to switch up your looks! The lashes look so beautiful on and will give your eyes an instant lift.
Let’s Get To Know Chantal
I interviewed Chantal to learn more on her inspiration behind creating MOTD COSMETICS and what motivates her to keep going every day. She has done an amazing job at building a loyal MOTD tribe. Keep reading, you will learn something. 🙂
Valerie: What inspired you to create MOTD COSMETICS?
Chantal: I’ve always been a beauty girl. My first job in retail cosmetics was when I was around 21 with Estee Lauder. I then worked my way up the retail chain as a business manager for YSL Beaute. In between my journey I’ve assisted many cosmetic brands as their freelance artist and had my own clientele too. In 2012, I decided to go back to school to get my Marketing Degree. My goal was to land a job with a brand as their regional product educator, I’ve always loved to teach others about how to take care of their skin, how to apply makeup, and product education. While I was in school my career goal shifted, I came up with the business idea of labeling brushes to help target women that don’t know what each brush is used for and in February 2015 is when I brought MOTD Cosmetics to life.
Valerie: What motivates you to keep going every day?
Chantal: The fact that I am my own boss and I love what I do. I wouldn’t trade my position in for anything. But most importantly is knowing that my products that I create make someone else feel better about themselves, it truly lights me up inside. Knowing that I am making a difference in someone’s life positively fuels my drive.
Valerie: When was the magic moment in your business when you knew you made it?
Chantal: Successfully making our Kickstarter campaign goal, all you need is a handful of people to believe in your product, I already won there.
Valerie: You have done such a great job at building your social media following, what tips do you have for brands trying to build a loyal tribe?
Chantal: Build authentic relationships with people who engage with you on the daily, turn customers into friends/brand ambassadors, put out quality content over quantity, answer your comments genuinely and ask questions back to drive engagement, share your favorite content from your followers, use strategic hashtags that fall into what you are offering and also cross promoting hashtags, partner with influencers (micro), post educational inspiring content.
Valerie: What advice do you have for aspiring Beauty Entrepreneurs?
Chantal: Stay authentic to you and your brand and don’t get discouraged when things are going slow. Remember slow and steady wins the race to build a reputable lasting brand.
